Gunmen kills Army officer in Benue community as Panic increases

It was a robbery case, Governor Ortom says Palpable fear has seized Tomataan community, around Low Cost area in Katsina-Ala Local Council of Benue State  following the killing  of an army officer on Sunday evening. The Guardian learnt that the army officer, a colonel was on his way from Lagos to Takum in Taraba State when he was accosted and killed by some gunmen around Sati Agirigi on Katsina-Ala-Takum Road. Soldiers have launched a reprisal attack, The Guardian learnt. They allegedly set no fewer than 20 houses on fire in retaliation to the death of their colleague, causing residents to flee the communities. Access road to Takum from Katsina-Ala is now difficult as the soldiers were said to have blocked the road. FG - David Mark illegally acquired Senate President’s official residence

Former Senate President, David Mark, as been accused by the Federal Government for illegally acquiring his then official residence as his private property. In September this year, the government, through the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, which is chaired by Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, gave the former Senate President a 21-day notice to quit the mansion. The notice to quit, however, asked Mark to “show cause” why the Federal Government should not “enforce the recovery of the property for public good.” But Mark had quickly filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja to quash all steps taken by the panel to evict him and recover the house from him. The case has not been heard. Our source,  on Monday, obtained from court, copies of documents, including exhibits, filed by the former Senate President in his suit challenging the recovery process. Nigerian Soldier killed in NE Landmine blast

A Nigerian soldier was killed on Friday when a military convoy transporting suspected Boko Haram jihadists struck a mine in the northeast of the country, security sources told AFP. The convoy was travelling to the town of Konduga in Borno state when the lead vehicle drove over the buried mine. “The vehicle hit an IED planted by Boko Haram terrorists, which damaged the vehicle and killed a soldier,” a Nigerian army officer said on condition of anonymity. Three other soldiers were wounded in the blast, the officer added, and none of the prisoners escaped. Boko Haram has carried out a string of suicide attacks and kidnappings in northeastern Nigeria in recent years, leaving at least 20,000 people dead and displacing 2.6 million since 2009. The Islamists have recently stepped up attacks on military targets despite the army insisting it is a spent force.

                                                         Liam Deane A father who killed his two-day-old baby girl because she wouldn’t stop crying has been found dead in his prison cell Liam Deane, 22, was jailed a month ago after pleading guilty to punching his two-day-old baby, Luna, in the face causing fatal injuries. According to Metro UK, he was found dead in his cell at HMP Leeds on Sunday and another inmate, John Westland, 28, has been charged with murder. Westland was flanked by two police officers and a member of court escort staff as he was brought into the dock. He remained handcuffed throughout the brief hearing, speaking only to confirm his personal details. A hearing will take place on Thursday at Leeds Crown Court. Luna’s mum had left her with Deane while she went to get some sleep. But Deane lost his temper during the night when Luna continued to cry, Leeds Crown Court heard.
